NBC New York reported that Murry’s Inc., a Pennsylvania-based food company, is recalling more than 20,000 pounds of chicken nuggets nationwide due to possible staph contamination after its product tested positive for Staphylococcal enterotoxin, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.

A Maine poultry company that sells products to several retailers including a popular grocery store chain in the tri-state and New England has recalled more than 1.7 million pounds of frozen chicken over concerns that they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Huffington Post reports that Amy’s Kitchen will be opening an all-vegetarian drive-thru in July. The first restaurant will open in Rohnert Park, California, a city north of San Francisco. Vegetarian diets have doubled over the past five years so hopefully this will be the first of many restaurants nationwide.

Some plastic food containers are not formulated to withstand the effects of being heated in a microwave oven. The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service warns that such containers can melt or warp in the heat. Additionally, the USDA says various kinds of harmful chemicals can end up in your food if you put a non-microwave-safe plastic container in a microwave.

Themindunleashed.org reported toxic chemicals being found in 81% of Dollar Store products. Apparently the products tested contained chemicals linked to learning disabilities, cancer, and other serious illnesses.
Way back as far as 2004, a report to Congress on the rendering industry on what happens at the level of the independent rendering plantvis as follows:
“These plants (estimated by NRA at 165 in the United States and Canada) usually collect material from other sites using specially designed trucks. They pick up and process fat and bone trimmings, inedible meat scraps, blood, feathers, and dead animals from meat and poultry slaughterhouses and processors (usually smaller ones without their own rendering operations), farms, ranches, feedlots, animal shelters, restaurants, butchers, and markets. As a result, the majority of independents are likely to be handling “mixed species.” Almost all of the resulting ingredients are destined for nonhuman consumption (e.g., animal feeds, industrial products). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates animal feed ingredients, but its continuous presence in rendering plants, or in feed mills that buy rendered ingredients, is not a legal requirement.”
Remember that the fats (or tallow) are also used in plastics that leach into human food as well. Also, for your information these plants are regulated to be inspected by the FDA, but there is no law requiring when or how often. The drugs used to euthanize animals do not break down, so they get recycled into the feed and tallow as well.
According to the Breast Cancer Fund, plastic can contain harmful chemicals that are dangerous to the human body!
