Salmonella Lawsuit

Washington, D.C., health advocacy group sued the U.S. Department of Agriculture for not doing enough to prevent the spread of antibiotic resistant strains of salmonella in meat. “USDA takes action only after people start becoming ill from these life-threatening antibiotic-resistant superbugs,” said Caroline Smith DeWaal, food safety director for the Center for Science in the Public Interest. The USDA said last December it would develop more stringent testing and sampling for salmonella in chicken plants and implement the first-ever
national standards for acceptable levels of salmonella contamination on cut chicken parts. Existing standards apply only to whole chickens. Question: What about the plastic packaging the chicken is wrapped in?
